KANG Yong-un

Born in Hwasun, Jeolla-do, Korea (1921-2006). Graduated from Teikoku Art School in Western painting. Was selected for the 8th Ousiokai Exhibition (1942). Held solo exhibitions at Gwangju United States Information Service (1950, 1954), Y Salon (1957, 1971), Gwangju Tourist Hotel Gallery (1965), Nam Do Art Hall (1983), etc. Participated in Korea: The Trend for the Past 20 Years of Contemporary Arts (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, 1978), 1st Gwangju Biennale Special Exhibition (1995), etc. Took positions as professor at Gwangju National University of Education, and the first and second president of Jeonnam Fine Arts Association. Received the Jeollanamdo Cultural Award (1973), Main Prize in the Culture and Art Sector of Mudeung Cultural Award (1988). Was bestowed the Mokryeon Medal, Order of Civil Merit (1981). Retrospective exhibitions were held in Gwangju Museum of Art (1999 and 2021).
