Journey of Pen and Ink Drawings This is the first solo exhibition of draftsman Kim Young-taek. Kim Young-taek is widely known to the public than to the people in art world by serial columns for a newspaper which contain pen and ink drawings of Korean cultural heritage with his short impressions. He has buckled to draw since finished his design company in 1994. When he found in France half of the souvenirs of the Louvre Museum were pen and ink drawings, he got a conviction that if cultural heritages of Korea were introduced by means of pen, the familiar material to the Western people, they couldbe easily acknowledge our treasure. On getting the conviction he started to travel all over the country to field sketch. Pen, an instrument for the most accurate and rational expression, is the most adequate material for his mission of making known to the world architectural heritage of Korea and delivering it to posterity. His drawings are often compared to documentary photographs in that they document objects accurately. Pen drawings may fall short to photographs in the accuracy of mechanical representation, but meticulously composed and executed drawings retain the spirit of the artist which could be missing in photographs. And the spirit is based on his love for cultural heritages of Korea.
