This is the artist's first solo exhibition held at Hakgojae Gallery. The exhibition showcases paintings created this year. HA Jung Woo has continued his work based on an interest in everyday objects and figures. The characters in his artworks are expressed through simple lines and vivid colors, highlighting their simplified forms. By emphasizing the eyes, nose, and mouth on the exaggerated faces, he breathes primitive vitality into the figures.
In this exhibition, HA Jung Woo reveals pure spirit and primal strength based on his long-standing exploration of primitivism. The new works, inspired by carpet designs, are composed of regular lines and geometric abstraction, emphasizing mystery and purity. He aims to visually articulate human intuition by utilizing indigenous patterns. At the same time, he interprets traditional Korean folk materials, such as masks, through a contemporary lens, incorporating them into his artworks. HA Jung Woo's practice demonstrates an effort to restore the inherent purity of humanity within modern civilization, reviving the authenticity and vitality of life. By tracing the reinterpretation of symbolic expressions of primitivism, he conveys resonances related to the essence of human existence and suggests new emotional discoveries.
