Hakgojae Design | PROJECT SPACE presents works by LEE Jae Seok (b. 1989, Daejeon, Korea) in his solo exhibition, The Boundary, from March 9th (Tue) to March 30th (Tue), 2021. This exhibition is the second to open from Hakgojae Design | PROJECT SPACE’s first quarter 2021, and is the fifth solo show for the artist. Nine recent paintings by LEE is on view. Surreal picture-screens, composed of inhuman subjects such as military tents, surgical screws, mechanical parts, etc., are presented. Based on his experience in the military, LEE contemplated on the individual’s humanity, scarred from the mechanized organization. He then led his thoughts into his works, painting the boundaries formed between two conflicting subjects. His way of unraveling heavy narratives into mythical scenes with refreshing colors is noticeable. LEE was born in Daejeon, Korea in 1989. He received his Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Fine Arts at Mokwon University. He has held solo exhibitions at LeeUngno Museum M2 Project-room (Daejeon, Korea), GalleryMEME (Seoul), etc. He also participated in group exhibitions at Daejeon Museum of Art (Daejeon, Korea), Chang Ucchin Museum of Art (Yangju, Korea), Space K (Gwacheon, Korea), and more. He is currently living and working in Daejeon, Korea.
