Homage - In Memory of Ha Dong Chul

Ha Dong Chul(1942-2006) is a well-known Korean artist as a ‘Painter of Light’. Seeing ‘Light’ as a symbol that represents the order of the Universe, an unchanging element, and the root of life, he worked on the theme of ‘Light’ for 25 years. He had 16 solo exhibitions and was selected as the official representative for the Korean Pavilion of the Venice Biennale in 1986. Ha Dong Chul largely influenced Korean contemporary art scene as an educator – at Seoul Arts High School as a teacher, Sungshin Women’s University as a professor and Seoul National University as a professor as well as a dean. To mark the 10th year of his passing, 60 of his students including Yoon Dong Chun, Yim Ja-hyuk, Han Keryoon, etc. are opening an exhibition, ‘Homage – In Memory of Ha Dong Chul’ at Hakgojae Gallery. The exhibition will offer the audience a chance to meet his great accomplishments.
