To start brand new of 2016, Hakgojae Gallery cordially invites you to Korea’s representative pop artist, Mari Kim’s solo exhibition entitled “SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence.” This exhibition will offer overall experience of the artist’s art world through over 150 works in which medium spectrum ranges from painting, neon, sculpture, and video. It will be the artist’s first local exhibition in Korea after proving possibility of international growth of the art world through a solo exhibition at Hakgojae Shanghai in 2015.
Artist Mari Kim is the creator of ‘Eyedoll’ a character in which depicts body of an unripe child with big eyes that seem rather odd. ‘Eyedoll’ provides the audience a window to look into a whole new world through those big eyes. Through this window, we find ourselves confronting greed, stereotypes, virtual reality subjects in which we face everyday.
Mari Kim studied multimedia at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia and received her master’s degree in creative media. Kim has presented her works actively through exhibitions since 2007 and in 2008, she has published a book entitled Eyedoll. In 2011, the artist collaborated with YG Entertainment’s idol girl group, 2NE1’s album cover and their music video in which ultimately gained an awareness from the general public. Mari Kim currently is an adjunct professor at Catholic University in digital media department.
