Alogon, imaginative power of irrational number The beginning of the story was like this. About 2,600 years ago Pythagoras who was an active mathematician and a philosopher thought all things are made up of numbers and tried to understand and explain the order of the world through numbers. To him essence of thing was not material but abstract principle, number. He founded theory of dualism in Greek thought by clearly distinguishing mind and matter, harmony and disharmony, good and evil etc. Pythagoras who had overwhelming curiosity and was so clever to satisfy such curiosity discovered the relationship between length of vibrating chord and level of sound and found harmonic progression. Furthermore when length of 2 chords was simple ratio of integral numbers such as 2:1, 3:2, 4:3 he discovered that they produced pleasant harmony. He who generalized such harmony between mathematics and music as his view for the world thought as world order was with proportional ratio of numbers then harmonious order of the universe was also with such proportional relationship. Thus Pythagoras School which followed him selected as their symbol star which could be produced by regular pentagon by adopting mysterious rules and golden proportion. Their greatest achievement was Pythagoras theorem. When the length of 2 sides between right angles of rectangular triangle was set as a and b and length of oblique angle as c then a2+ b2= c2. As a result of their discovery of this theorem and proof people could make right angle easily. Right angle was a very useful theorem for constructing buildings this theorem was very useful for building up civilization. In the process of proving this theorem he discovered rational number 3/2, 3/5 etc. and thought there was nothing which can not expressed by such numbers. However he discovered that there was no rational numbers which corresponded to end point of definite straight line which has same length as that of diagonal line of regular square possessing unit length. He eventually discovered √2 which was proportion of diagonal length of regular square which is proportion of diagnoal side and the base of rectangular isosceles triangle which is considered quite natural by us today. To them who were convinced that natural law of the universe can be explained by numbers the 'number' which can not be expressed by ratio of integral numbers unexplicable by number concepts they defined could not be accepted. Existence of irrational numbers unsettled their faith from the root therefore Pythagoras who could not accept it decided to deny it. Thus called as Algon meaning unreasonable numbers which could not be spoken with mouth' or 'it is not proportion' and not only excluded it from subjects of research but also its existence itself was sealed so that no one in Pythagoras School would disclose it externally. However according to legend like story Hapasus of the Pythagoras School disclosed it eventually and as punishment he was killed to be silent forever. Anyhow unreasonable number came to be known in the world. Unreasonable number about whose existence Pythagoras desired to hide from the world was clearly a door leading to another world. It is not proportional thus a tale which can not be told but it was hidden out of his personal desire but it was a piece of speech which will eventually emerged on the surface of face and reveal its form. When we think about it many things were secret before. Seasonable changes, sunrise and change between day and night for the people who could not find the reason for it were natural law of mystery only known to God and about which man could not do anything. We remember that the fact of round earth rotating and the earth not being a center of the universe was important secret which could take away life of people. Is the world much different from those days? Around us for some reason very clear fact sometimes was covered up tightly as secret which could not be disclosed to people and smoke screen is drawn to cover up its true identity. In this world filled with conspiracy and secrets we sometimes experience of being blind with our eyes open, deaf and dumb from time to time. There are majority of 'us' who live as if flowing on even when we encountered such facts from time to time and there are someone who have to be silent because of weight of inner truth even they know it and there must be someone like Hipasus who creates schism of silence cartel. This exhibition started from interest of artists who are living as Hipasus in the reality which contains always inconvenient Algon. Subjects and purpose and method differ but Koh Nak-Beom, Noh Sun-Tag and Yangachi are artists who reveal something whose identity could not be known or dark silent world. Logical world and reasonable man were drawn by horizontal and vertical image by Koh Nak-Beom. But from the time of his dreaming in different direction his lines extended slantwise. Slant line met number 5 containing mystery and completion and perfection gave birth to pentagon which was formed by 5 lines not in parallel. His pentagon being drawing except regular pentagon of golden proportion emphasizes attributes of slant line therefore it is far more unstable and dynamic and shows flow which is free from absolute power ruling the world, the gravity. Such shape stimulates our geometric imagination and induces us to dream about energy which can not be controlled and extending toward the universe by escaping from territory. In the hole which passes through pentagon from throat to anus, in the hole passing through body of man we may discover a pathway which leads to a new world which is not dominated by reason of man. He has structure and irregularity concurrently and through creaking of antinomical situation he is tapping at some world which is beyond perception. Noh Sun-Tag is searching for identity of white, round and strange ball standing at Hwangsaeul Field of Daechu-ri, Pyungtaek. From the fact that no one in the town knows identity of this ball the artist began to have interest in the ball and pursues to uncover its identity. This ball came into his camera angle along with people of Daechu-ri, grains, birds, flowers, trees, grass, wild goose, ducks, mongrel dogs, cows, cats, water, barbed wire, house, tractor, car, moon, cloud and flag.' The identity which was discovered through various source was radar dome (radom). Radar which has ideal form of ball for preventing all the internal and external pressure is very important element in modern warfare which can have decisive power in the war through its power for information technology. It is possible to estimate what is role of radom which is soared upward in Pyungtaek, a core basis of communication monitoring and listening but to the artist it is another name of existence of the United States which holds security and information of Korean peninsula in its hand and is going to make its will reign. Radom which is shown in series of the works of the artists under the name of 'Yaluthan Gong' blends with landscape around it in a strange way and it covers up or reveals its existence and silences voice of people who suspect justice of expelling them from the place they were living and petitioning about its injustice and it stands erectly as if turned deaf ears or ignoring such voice. In the pictures of Daechu-ri which became a history by movement of bases for U.S. forces white ball was discovered and truth which was covered approaches us little by little. Yangachi who established middle Korea which has no territory but is an imaginary country which is neither South nor North Korea or not existing in the relationship between South and North Korea gave 'Rumour Gun' to an imaginary sharpshooter Cha Ji Ryang. His gun is a product with 'Mr. Kim's factory' brand which produces products required for social intervention. Drug which deletes memory and Kamikaze Helmet etc. Mr. Kim's factory which produced products for social intervention has been operating by Kim Il-soo and his two sons Kim I-soo and Kim Du-soo and his daughter Kim, Young since 50 years. The representative products of this factory was bike which was produced through delicate manual works. Riding on extraordinary product which can be loaded on satellite and can also be mounted on missile Kamikaze riders who registered their nationality in Middle Korea rush toward the system they desire to destroy. Mr. Kim's factory like this supports Kamikaze Riders or Cha Ji Ryang etc. and plays role of network for connecting individuals. With Rumour Gun being produced from Mr. Kim's factory Cha Ji Ryang shoots rumours and disturbs the world. His shooting is aimed at system and it is a strategy of dissolving psychological link toward social stability. From Cha Ji Ryang's activity which intervenes with social system by Rumour Gun we can identify existence of individuals as point of vanishment who is playing unchanged role. Individuals who are active in middle Korea which destroys existing state, government, economic and social system are realizing dream which is desired to dream 'here'. These 3 artists who take up Alogon of the world through imagination of unreasonable numbers make cracks at some points of balls or make new balls or something else. Through their works each of us can choose to focus our interest on 'real thing' or transfer our interest into action or just glance by or do something else.
