JIN Yangping

Born in 1971 in Wenzhou, China, Jin Yangping graduated from China Academy of Fine Art in Hangzhou. He is a professor at CAFA Hangzhou and working both in Shanghai and Hangzhou.

Jin Yangping’s works tell stories of people and society in mass media and their relationships. A scene of martial arts that is familiar, driving cars and apartment buildings, birds, trees, or even a marching band—are all aspects of China’s contemporary society coming from mass media. These figures and sceneries are tangled up in a collage and with addition of brushstrokes and paints, confusing and anxious, unfamiliar impressions are revealed.

Jin Yangping is concentrating on human’s lives within city sceneries. Based on photos randomly selected from the internet, facial painting series is completed by the artist’s spontaneous brushstrokes. In front of a solid color background, impassive figures with anxious eyes are awkwardly distorted. His works recall on one’s moral values and independent lives alienated within materialistic affluence in China’s rapid-growing economy for the past twenty years.

After Jin Yangping carried a record of youngest age receiving 1st place at National Exhibition of Fine Arts, which opens every 5 years, in 1997, he held solo exhibitions at Gallery Of China Academy of Art in Hang Zhou (1998), Variation 2002 exhibition at Hong Kong Art Commune, Body exhibition at Cathay Gallery in Paris (2003), Galerie Andreas Binder in Munich, Germany (2007), Shanghai Museum (2012), Hakgojae Shanghai (2014), and at Beijing Today Art Museum in 2015. His works are part of public collections at Macau City Hall, China Academy of Arts in Hang Zhou, Shanghai HOW Art Museum, and Michigan State University Eli and Edythe Broad Museum.
